waiting for the decision

A real decision from the live service for a live story, sent from our server and marked as a demo, so it never counts as a view or a click. The time is the round trip from our server. The page class is the service's own context for that page.

How it works

Built for the page, the reader and the sponsor

One script tag on the page. Atlas reads the story, picks the ad and draws it in the slot, in the tag's own templates.

Reads the page

Every story gets its topics, such as oil, chips or shipping, and the ad follows the story. A reader on a tanker story sees a shipping ad.

Learns from every view

Views, clicks and closes feed back into which creative runs on which kind of story.

Respects readers

No personal data, no profile of the reader. Sensitive stories only get neutral ads, and every ad can be closed.

Reader safety

Safe for the reader, safe for the page

The rules Atlas runs by on every page, for every reader.

  • No personal data sold. Atlas picks the ad from the page, not from a profile of the reader.

  • Global Privacy Control honored. The tag reads the browser's GPC signal and sends it with every decision.

  • No ads in the EU, UK or CH. Readers there get no Atlas ad; the slot stays empty.

  • Sensitive pages, neutral ads only. Stories about war, disasters or harm only get the neutral tier: plain brand ads with no tickers.

  • Why this ad. The i in the corner of every ad opens a page that says why it was shown.

  • Mute and frequency caps. Close an ad and it stays gone for 30 days. Caps keep one reader from seeing the same ad too often.

The service

One decision per page, about a millisecond of compute

The tag asks once for every slot on the page. The service reads the page's context, picks a creative for each slot and answers. Most of the wait a reader sees is the network; the choice itself takes about a millisecond.
